electric box cab locomotive with freight at the Cascata delle Marmore, Italy

A scene on the Tranvia Terni-Ferentillo, an 18.5 km (11.5 mile) standard gauge line opened in two stages up the Nera valley which lasted from 1901 to 1960 and was electrified with 600 volts DC, as can be seen, from overhead. As well as freight, given the proximity to the Marmore waterfall, it also provided a significant commuter and tourist passenger service,  Initally 6 Siemens locomotives were acquired (number 24 in the postcard is one of them), followed by 4 from Thomson-Houston. More were added later, including 2 from Tecnomasio Italiano Brown Boveri (TIBB) in 1925.

The Cascata delle Marmore is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans with a total height of 165 metres (541 ft), making it one of the tallest in Italy and the tallest man-made waterfall in Europe. It has 3 stages of which the top one is the tallest at 83 metres (272 feet). It is located 7.7 km from Terni.
