up to the Col du Tourmalet

The Col du Tourmalet on the French side of the central Pyrénées is an impressive 2115 metres in altitude (6,950 ft) and is best known as a frequent endurance test on the Tour de France. In the second photo from circa 1950, as well as the motorised vehicles there looks to be a donkey or mule in the parking lot near the bus.
